Stepney League Moves from Strength to Strength
Whenever we have the chance to bring a competitive edge to our chess provision, we seize it. And the Stepney League is a prime example of why. What began four years ago as a small event between two schools has since blossomed into a thriving inter-school chess competition, making Stepney a hotspot for young chess talent. Beyond the checkmates and strategic plays, this league has created a friendly and motivating environment where children develop confidence, resilience, and a love for the game.
The latest Stepney League showdown took place on January 10th, marking the third session of the academic year. The excitement was palpable as young players put their skills to the test, showing impressive strategic thinking and competitive spirit.
This time, Thomas Buxton Primary School emerged as the champions, solidifying their position at the top of the league table. Many of their players delivered a flawless performance, scoring 15/15 points—a testament to strength of the chess scene at the school. St Peter’s Dockside secured an impressive second place, with every member of the team earning an individual medal for their efforts. English Martyrs Primary School rounded off the podium, taking third place with strong performances across the board.
We extend our gratitude to Stepney Park Primary for hosting this fantastic event. Their warm hospitality ensured a smooth and enjoyable tournament for all participants.
With the competition heating up, we can’t wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds.
